End-of-service gratuity under Qatar Labour Law No. 14 of 2004

Under Article 54 of Qatar Labour Law No. 14 of 2004, an employee who completes at least one year of service is entitled to an end-of-service gratuity of at least three weeks' basic wage for each year of service, based on the last basic wage. Partial years are paid in proportion to the time served, and resignation does not reduce the gratuity.

How it's calculated

Who are you calculating for?

Basic wage only, as of your last month. Allowances, bonuses and overtime are excluded.

Frequently asked questions

How is gratuity calculated in Qatar?

Divide your monthly basic wage by 30 to get a daily wage, multiply by 21 (three weeks) for each year of service, and pro-rate partial years. This is the statutory minimum; a contract may grant more.

Is it really a flat 3 weeks per year, even after 5 years?

Yes. The current law sets a flat minimum of three weeks' wage per year for all years of service. The old escalating tiers (4 weeks after 5 years, 5 weeks after 10) were repealed by Law No. 14 of 2004 and now apply only if your individual contract grants them.

Does resigning affect my gratuity in Qatar?

No. After one completed year, you receive the same gratuity whether you resign or are terminated. The only exception is dismissal for gross misconduct under Article 61, which forfeits it.

Is gratuity on basic or total salary?

Basic wage only, using your last basic wage. Housing, transport and other allowances are excluded.
